Roll out the red Carpet as high profile guests are about to land for the 51st edition of Sitges Film Festival 2018!!!!

So who might you catch a glimpse of this year at the Sitges Film Festival 2018?

Nicolas Cage, Ed Harris, Peter Weir, John Carpenter, Tilda Swinton, M. Night Shyamalan or Pam Grier are just a few of the Festival’s distinguished guests.

We are just 3 days away from the offical curtain time. Sitges is hectic preparing a selection that visits the different territories of cinematic fantasy, new series presentations, while not neglecting the most innovative virtual reality, side events and music.

What to look forward to…

This year the festival offers a much awaited concert which will be performed by John Carpenter. Performed in the Melia Sitges Auditori, this will be held 1 day before the screening of Halloween. Halloween gave birth to a subgenre known as ‘the slasher’. It dominated horror movies until the late 70s and during the 80s. The Sitges Film Festival will offer a comprehensive retrospective.

2001: A Space Odyssey

This year you should also watch out for the legacy of filmmaker Stanley Kubrick and his innovative 2001: A Space Odyssey.  It will make its presence felt throughout the Sitges Film Festival 2018. It will culminate its activities with the screening of the 4K restored version of the benchmark movie by the American filmmaker during the closing gala ceremony.

Apart from Halloween and 2001: A Space Odyssey you will hear chatter about Suspiria starring Tilda Swinton. She is here to receive the Festival’s Grand Honorary Award. Peter Weir will receive the same award for his iconic movie The Truman Show. Ed Harris (who starred in the Truman Show) will also be in town to receive the Festival’s highest recognition alongside Nicolas Cage.

Other names to watch for

From October 4th to the 14th, Sitges Film Festival 2018 will be offering the very best genre films of the moment in an Official Selection including outstanding names like Lars Von Trier, David Robert Mitchell, Gaspar Noé, Agnieszka Smoczynska, Gareth Evans, Claire Denis or Lee Chang-dong.

The Festival continues to maintain its five screens which will be showing most of the films that make up its official sections: Meliá Sitges Auditori, the Retiro, Prado, Brigadoon and the Tramuntana Room.

But you will also be able to see some of them at other Festival theatres, with free admission, like the Movistar+ Virtual Hero Zone, Hort de Can Falç or the Miramar Cultural Center, where we will enjoy virtual reality experiences brought to us by Slatix.

Other things to do…

If you are not watching the stars at the Sitges Film Festival 2018, you may be watching one of the movies. You can enjoy loads of side events too from presentations of books, exhibitions, autograph sessions etc. One of the most celebrated aspects of the festival has to be the infamous Zombie walk.
