Welcome to Sitges, a beautiful coastal town located 35 km south of Barcelona in Catalonia and known for its amazing beaches. From busy, family-friendly spots to quiet, hidden coves, our Sitges Beach Guide has everything you need to find your perfect place by the sea. Whether you love soaking up the sun, trying water sports, or want a peaceful day by the water, Sitges has something special for everyone.Â
Discover why Sitges is renowned as one of Spain’s top beach destinations.
There’s plenty of Mediterranean appeal in Sitges. Whitewash buildings, narrow streets, and loads of local culture waiting to be soaked up.Â
Sitges was once a tiny fishing town and a port town known for exporting wine. Over time, influenced by the presence of artists, liberals, and poets, Sitges has developed a reputation for its Bohemian charm. This charm, coupled with its stunning coastline of beaches, is why holidaymakers and day trippers love Sitges.
Notably, the European Union awarded nine beaches surrounding Sitges a blue flag in 2023 for the cleanliness of the water.
Sitges is also a town of diversity, and the beaches play their part. There is an extensive choice: family, urban, dog-friendly, cove-style, and gay beaches. Take your pick.Â
It is easy to see why Culture Trip ranked Sitges among the ‘Top 6 best beach towns in Catalonia’.

Getting to Garraf Beach is easy and convenient, with train access available for those without a car. Located in the picturesque and tranquil town of Garraf, this beach offers a blend of beauty and relaxation. A distinctive feature of Garraf Beach is its charming white houses, originally fishermen’s homes, dating back to the 1920s. Additionally, from this quaint enclave, you can find your way to Platja del Bou, a small port beach. Stretching over 380 meters, Garraf Beach is well-equipped with all essential amenities, including a beach bar, kayak rentals, lifeguard services, and showers, making it perfect for everyone. Cala Morisca (nudist beach)
Cala Morisca is a beautiful and popular nudist beach between Sitges and Garraf. You will need a car or motorbike. It is approx. 150 m long and 60 meters wide. There is a small beach bar on the beach for drinks and sandwiches. You can book the Cala Morisca Restaurant for a more extravagant lunch. Kids can swim in the pool as the adults dine. Balmins Beach (optional nudism)
This Sitges beach is east of the church (10 minutes on foot), and the interesting Sant Sebastià n cemetery is behind it. It has a total length of 250 m and is naturally divided into three sections. It is also a naturist beach, but it is not mandatory. When you arrive, you will understand why it is a popular beach for everyone. The environment is primarily natural, and the view is breathtaking.
Access to La Caleta restaurant makes it an excellent beach for the whole day.
In 2022, the previous chiringuito on the beach was forced to close, much to many people’s dismay, but the owners now run a small bar for drinks and snacks just beside the restaurant and on the way down to the beach.

San Sebastián Beach is located between the church and the cemetery. This Sitges beach is a family beach and has many restaurants to choose from. Of course, being the first urban Sitges beaches, it is bustling in July and August.
Our recommendation is to get to this beach early. The new chiringuito on the beach, Chiringuito Caracola, has excellent reviews, and there is a massive choice of restaurants on the pedestrianised promenade. Check out our blog on restaurants and bars in Sitges.

Fragata Beach (sports facilities)
This Sitges beach is just below the church and in front of the Plaza de la Fragata. It is about 40 meters wide and very lively, and it is extremely popular with locals and groups of friends who enjoy beach sports such as volleyball.
The Club Nautico is on the beach, where you can hire paddle boards or take a sailing class. One point to consider when visiting this Sitges Beach is that no sunbeds are available, although there are showers and a beach bar. It also has a lifeguard in the summer months.
The new Beach Bar Iguana deserves a strong recommendation. They serve great food and drinks and occasionally organize events.

The first chiringuitos in Sitges called ‘Chiringuito’ and possibly the first in Spain, is on the promenade at this beach. It serves seafood tapas and is usually very busy.
Playa de la Bassa Rodona (Sitges gay beach)Â
This Sitges beach stands out as the town’s premier gay-friendly beach, boasting a central location that tends to draw lively crowds. Spanning nearly 300 meters, it’s conveniently situated right below the Pic-Nic restaurant. While it’s a welcoming spot for all visitors, it holds a unique appeal within the gay community, making it a popular choice for those seeking a vibrant and inclusive beach experience.
- Characteristics:Â Golden sand. Calm waters.
- Services:Â Almost all (bathrooms, showers, rental of umbrellas/sunbeds) are accessible to people with disabilities.

L’Estanyol beach (family)
This beach is probably the most diverse in Sitges, and it attracts everyone: gay people, families, singles, couples, and children, but no dogs.
All services are present, including lifeguards in summer. There are also three beach bars and rental services for umbrellas, sunbeds, and surfboards. On the promenade, there are several restaurants where you can eat.

Riera Xica Beach (family)Â
Benapres is a cute beach bar built into the Paseo. You can get a decent lunch, takeaway drinks, and quick snacks here.
This long, approximately 350 m beach is really popular. It is generally less crowded than other central Sitges beaches, so in the summer, it is usually a great option. It is in a residential area, but it offers many services for your day at the beach.

- Services:Â All (Bathrooms, showers, restaurants, bars/beach bars, and umbrellas/sunbeds rental). Access for people with disabilities.

This is a beach towards the end of the strip. It is an ideal place for families because it is quiet compared to other beaches. It is 390 meters long and 25 meters wide.

Terramar Beach
The latest addition to Sitges’ beach scene is Acqua Beach Chiringuito, a laid-back eatery affiliated with the Sunway Hotel, located at the far end of the Paseo. Offering a variety of tapas and snacks, it is a more casual and budget-friendly alternative to the pricier BESO Beach. Acqua Beach isn’t just about great food; it also hosts a range of activities, including yoga or pilates sessions throughout the week and energizing Zumba classes starting at 10:00 am on Sundays, adding a dynamic twist to the beachside experience.
Terramar Beach is a 15-minute walk from the town, but you can take the train if the children want to avoid walking.
It has become a little rockier over the years, but there are sunbeds, and you can rent SUP boards and pedal boats from here as well as Anquines Beach, which is often confused with each other and area side by side.
Les Anquines Beach (family)
This beach is at the end of the promenade, after Terramar Beach. It is ideal for families and, above all, for small children since a breakwater surrounds the area. This beach is a hub for water sports enthusiasts, offering a variety of activities to dive into. At Nootka Kayak & Paddle Surf, you can rent everything from pedal boats and kayaks to surfboards and stand-up paddleboards, ensuring an adventurous day out on the water. It is 400 meters long and has many services.
Beso Beach Bar, sister to Beso Beach in Ibiza and Formentera, elevates the Sitges beach experience with its excellent menu (priced on the higher side), vibrant DJ sets, and the most comfortable loungers in town. The menu highlights include fresh fish sourced directly from the local market, and exceptional cuts of aged beef steak prepared on twin ember grills. Tasty!
In the summer, the water in this Sitges beach can get a bit warm because the rock formations hold it in the bay. If you like warm water, this is the place for you.

Les Coves Beach / Cap dels Grills
Situated south of Sitges town, this beach is known for its openness. When the wind picks up, the sea can become quite lively. Its sandy shores and tendency to deepen quickly may not be the best choice for young children. Its secluded nature, however, offers a serene and picturesque escape for those seeking tranquility away from the more crowded spots.
- Features:Â Calm waters and much wind.
- Getting there: Latitude: 41º 13 ‘23.772’ ‘N / Longitude: 01º 46’ 29.806″ E
Playa de l’Home Mort (nudist and gay-friendly beach)Â
This is another small nudist beach, popular with the gay crew, but anyone is welcome. Established in 1930, it was one of the first gay beaches in the world. You will find it along the path past the old l’Atlà ntida nightclub, where you can park and walk. This Sitges beach is mainly pebbles, so we don’t recommend it for small children. Access is also tricky.
We are delighted that one of our favourite wine bars has opened here – Casa Marc Beach Bar. It’s worth the trek to get there and have a more natural beach day experience than the urban beaches offer.
